First On the Scene training is designed to be delivered to all staff working within the secure environment. The course explains the procedures to be taken upon discovering a hostage situation and what to do if taken hostage. The course duration is three hours.

Course objectives:

By the end of the course delegates will be able to:

• Understand your policy strategy for hostage taking.

• Understand how to reduce the risk of being taking hostage.

• Know and understand what to do if taken hostage.

• Know and understand how to report a hostage incident.

• Know and understand strategies to use to ensure personal safety upon discovering a hostage incident.

• Interact with the perpetrator to minimise harm to the first on the scene, hostage or the perpetrator.
